Litecoin (LTC) is a peer-to-peer internet currency that enables instant, near zero cost payments to anyone in the world. While Bitcoin is seen as digital "gold" and a great store of long term value, Litecoin has been seen as the "silver" and more suited to everyday purchases. The Litecoin Network went live on October 13th 2011 and has remained a popular cryptocurrency ever since.

Fun Fact
Litecoin is one of the earliest splits from the Bitcoin network as it was a fork of the Bitcoin source code, with some improvements included, to make it quicker and cheaper.
